In the spring of 2010, a group of eight middle and high school actors decided to present popular fables to young children ranging from pre-school and up choosing to perform their stories with minimal props and set, allowing the audience to fill in the blanks! Youngsters love the simple plots and silly action and older youth find it an inspiration to try to spread their own wings and do shows of their own.
Today, what started as a simple fundraising effort is now the seed for FHYT’s outreach group, “The FHYT Fable Troupe”. Since their beginnings, this “By Youth, For Youth” group have taken their “act on the road” to perform at Creative Child Care, Four Peaks Elementary, The Boys and Girls Club of Fountain Hills, Sunset Kiwanis, and on our own Youth Theater stage!
Just like any other skill, creativity needs to be practiced to be developed. Our theater provides a safe place for children to express their creativity and take personal risks in a venue that celebrates success with every performance, and builds self-confidence and self esteem by teaching children to express themselves to others – whether that is on a stage or in everyday relationships. All of these benefits are key to building a healthy, confident personality.
Beyond the Storybook will perform at Fountain Hills Youth Theater at 10am on September 17th, October 15th, November 19th, and December 17th. The Fable Troupe is also available for traveling performances at your location, subject to availability.
